What is Reflexology?
Reflexology is an ancient therapeutic treatment, thought to have originated in China. The first evidence however, was found in Egypt, in the tomb of Ankmahor, an Egyptian physician. The hieroglypics are dated around the year 2330 B.C.
Reflexology is simple and non-invasive. The practitioner uses gentle pressure on certain areas/points of the feet or hands to bring about a state of deep relaxation and, similar to Reiki, stimulate the body's own healing healing processes.
What can you expect?
The practitioner will ask about any health related conditions or illness the recipient may be experiencing. The information is kept in the utmost confidence and the recipient will be asked to sign a consent form. Reflexology is natural and safe. The recipient sits reclined in a zero gravity chair. The feet and/or hands are gently cleaned with unscented baby wipes. The practitioner will use coconut oil or other light carrier oil to gently massage the feet and/or hands while applying gentle pressure on certain areas. If at any point the pressure is too hard or light (no one likes to be tickled) the recipient is encouraged to speak up. Typical treatments for each appendage is 15-20 minutes (30 minutes for feet OR hands and 60 minutes for both). Once the session is complete, the recipient is encouraged to take their time before standing up and drink plenty of fluids.
